CRIMINALIZATION VS. CAREHow The 20 Largest US Cities Invest Their Resources

In December of 2023, I was the lead designer for the national report titled "Criminalization vs. Care: How The 20 Largest US Cities Invest Their Resources. I worked with various grassroots organizations from across the country such as Reimagine Richmond in California, Movimiento Poder in Colorado, and Social Movement Support Lab, a program at the University of Denver, to develop this national study of the 20 largest U.S Cities with funding disparities between policing and social services. The report examined the 2022 budgets of the 20 largest US cities, revealing major disparities in budgeting and directing as much as 10 times more public investment toward systems of mass incarceration. Chicago ranks as the second highest city, spending $1.9 billion in the Mass Criminalization System compared to $265 million that goes towards Systems of Community Care.
